Why The CCM Vizions Could Be The Most Exciting Skates in Years
The hockey world is always buzzing when a major equipment brand prepares to release something new, but every once in a while, a product comes along that truly captures the attention of players and gear enthusiasts alike.

That appears to be exactly what is happening with the upcoming CCM Vizion hockey skates, a model that is already picking up steam at the NHL level and could very well end up being one of the most special skates CCM has ever produced.

Over the past several months, the Vizion skates have quietly begun making their rounds around the league. Earlier in the fall, a handful of NHL players were spotted wearing what appeared to be prototype versions of the skate.

At the time, the boot graphics were minimal and details were scarce, which only added to the intrigue surrounding the project. Now, however, things are starting to become much clearer.

Roughly a dozen NHL players have begun skating in what looks to be the final version of the Vizion boot, complete with the graphics that will likely appear on the retail release.

Among the early adopters are several players who have long been associated with CCM skates. Cutter Gauthier, Mikael Backlund, and Joel Eriksson Ek have all been spotted wearing the Vizions recently.

For players like these, the transition makes perfect sense. They have spent most of their professional careers using CCM skates, so testing out the company’s newest and most advanced model is a natural progression.

But while those names certainly help build excitement around the product, something even more interesting has started to happen.

The Vizion skates have also caught the attention of players who do not typically wear CCM skates at all.

Perhaps the most surprising example is Chris Kreider of the Anaheim Ducks. Kreider has been one of the most consistent Bauer skate users in the NHL for well over a decade.

In fact, many equipment enthusiasts know just how particular he has been about his skates. For years, Kreider has been a loyal user of Bauer’s Supreme Ultrasonic model, rarely deviating from that setup in the last handful of years or so.

Because of that history, it would have been a very safe prediction to assume Kreider would spend the remainder of his career in Bauer skates. After all, he has worn Bauer skates in all 900 plus NHL games that he has played.

That is why what happened on February 27, shortly after the Olympic break, came as such a surprise.

In a game against the Winnipeg Jets, Kreider stepped onto the ice wearing CCM Vizion skates, becoming one of the first NHL players to debut the new model in game action. For many who closely follow hockey equipment trends, it was a genuinely shocking development.

Why would a player in his mid-thirties who has been so committed to Bauer suddenly switch?

The exact reason is not publicly known, but there are a few possible clues. Kreider has recently been using CCM’s Tacks XF Ghost hockey stick, which may have opened the door for him to experiment with other CCM gear. If the stick had been working well for him, perhaps the thought process was simple. Why not give the skates a try too?

Whatever the reason, the fact that a long time Bauer user like Kreider was willing to make the switch speaks volumes. Players at the NHL level are extremely particular about their equipment, especially when it comes to skates. Comfort, performance, and familiarity are everything, and most players are reluctant to make drastic changes.

Kreider’s decision suggests that the Vizion skates may offer something truly special.

At the same time, he may not be the only one making the leap.

Just a few days ago, Marcus Johansson of the Minnesota Wild, another player who has historically worn Bauer skates, was also seen testing the new Vizions. If that trend continues, it could signal the beginning of a broader shift among NHL players who are curious to see what CCM’s latest innovation has to offer.

At the moment, specific details about the technology behind the Vizion skates remain largely under wraps. CCM has yet to release full information about the design, materials, or performance features that make this model unique.

However, the early interest from NHL players suggests that the company may have developed something that pushes the boundaries of what modern hockey skates can do.

As we move toward the end of the NHL regular season and into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it will be fascinating to see how many more players begin appearing in Vizion skates. If the early adopters continue to grow in number, especially among players who traditionally wear other brands, it could be a strong sign that CCM has a true game changer on its hands.

For now, hockey fans and gear enthusiasts will have to wait for the official announcement and full feature breakdown. But based on what we are already seeing at the NHL level, the CCM Vizion skates are shaping up to be one of the most intriguing and potentially groundbreaking skate releases in years.
