Thomas Harley's Extension May Spark Something Extra With Bauer

For Thomas Harley, the only NHL team he has ever known may very well be the only one he’ll ever need. The Dallas Stars have made it clear that the 24-year-old defenseman from Syracuse, New York, is a key piece of their long-term future, signing him to a massive eight-year, $84.6 million contract extension earlier this season.
It’s the kind of deal that not only rewards Harley for his impressive development and production but also signals the franchise’s belief that he will be a cornerstone on the blue line for years to come.
Since being selected by Dallas in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Harley has taken the steady, disciplined approach that teams love to see in young defensemen. Now in his third full NHL season, he’s built his game around reliability, skating, and awareness. He’s become a true all-around defenseman who can defend, move the puck, and chip in offensively.
Last season, Harley reached new heights with a career-best 50 points, establishing himself as one of the league’s rising young defensemen. Given that many NHL blue liners don’t hit their prime until their mid-to-late twenties, it’s reasonable to think that Harley’s best hockey is still ahead of him.
Dallas has benefited from Harley’s steady rise, but his impact goes beyond the box score. He’s become a dependable presence in all situations. He is capable of logging heavy minutes, quarterbacking a power play, and helping shut down opposing top lines. His growth has mirrored that of the Stars themselves, a team built around a blend of youthful energy and veteran leadership.
Jim Nill and the Stars’ front office clearly believe Harley represents the next generation of Dallas defensemen, following in the footsteps of franchise mainstays like Miro Heiskanen.
Yet Harley’s recent extension isn’t the only development catching the attention of hockey fans and gear enthusiasts alike. Around the same time the new contract was announced, Harley made a subtle but noticeable change in his equipment setup.
He suddenly switched from his longtime CCM gloves to Bauer’s Vapor HyperLite model. While that may seem like a small adjustment, it could be the first hint of something bigger brewing behind the scenes.
For years, Harley has worn Bauer skates but has stuck with CCM for his gloves, stick, helmet, and pants. This is a common setup for players transitioning between the AHL and NHL. The American Hockey League’s equipment agreement requires most players to use CCM, so young players often remain in the brand’s gear until their NHL status solidifies.
Now that Harley is firmly established as a top-pair defenseman and freshly inked to a long-term deal, it’s entirely possible that Bauer has taken notice and reached out with interest in bringing him into the fold.
A potential partnership between Harley and Bauer would make sense for both sides. For Bauer, aligning with one of the league’s emerging young stars, and one who’s a marketing opportunity with long-term upside.
For Harley, joining Bauer’s growing roster of elite athletes could provide access to the brand’s latest innovations and customization options, all while further establishing his personal identity in the league.
Equipment trends in the NHL often start with small moves. This could be one new glove model, a different helmet, or a new stick pattern before evolving into a full brand shift.
So far, the Vapor HyperLite gloves have been the only new development, but equipment watchers will be keeping a close eye to see if more pieces follow. If a Bauer stick or helmet appears by midseason, it could all but confirm that a new partnership is in motion.
Regardless of how the equipment story unfolds, Thomas Harley’s career trajectory is pointed sharply upward. His new contract ensures that he’ll be a fixture on the Dallas blue line for the foreseeable future, anchoring a defensive corps that continues to rank among the NHL’s best.
With his combination of poise, skating, and hockey IQ, not to mention his youthful upside, Harley has the tools to become one of the top two-way defensemen in the league.
The Stars have locked in one of their brightest young talents for the long haul, and the timing couldn’t be better. Between his breakthrough play on the ice, his growing off-ice presence, and the possibility of a new partnership with Bauer, Thomas Harley’s next chapter looks to be just as exciting as the path that got him here.
Whether it’s scoring from the point, shutting down top forwards, or debuting the next piece of Bauer gear, Harley is poised to remain in the spotlight, and in a Stars uniform, for years to come.
