The Tkachuk Brothers Are Wearing the Same Jersey... Will the Same Equipment Follow?

Just over a week ago, the NHL landscape changed in a major way when the Florida Panthers acquired Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators.
The move instantly reunited one of hockey's most recognizable sibling duos, as Brady joins older brother Matthew in South Florida after years of competing against one another at the NHL level.
Fans have already seen what the Tkachuk brothers can accomplish together while representing Team USA on the international stage. Their combination of skill, physicality, leadership, and competitiveness has made them one of the most entertaining tandems in hockey. Now, for the first time in their professional careers, they'll be bringing that same chemistry to an NHL roster.
For Panthers’ fans, it's hard not to be excited about what this could mean over the next several seasons. But while most conversations surrounding the trade have centered around Stanley Cup aspirations and roster construction, hockey equipment enthusiasts have another storyline to keep an eye on.
What happens to the Tkachuks' equipment?
For several years now, Matthew Tkachuk has been one of Sherwood Hockey's premier ambassadors. Whether using the Code series or appearing in marketing campaigns, he has become one of the faces of the Sherwood brand at the NHL level.
Meanwhile, younger brother Brady has spent much of his career representing TRUE Hockey, serving as one of the company's highest-profile NHL players.
When you stop and think about it, it's actually a fascinating dynamic. Two of the NHL's brightest stars have spent years promoting two brands that traditionally receive far less exposure than industry giants like Bauer and CCM.
Both Sherwood and TRUE deserve plenty of credit for securing partnerships with players of this caliber and helping elevate their visibility throughout the hockey world.
Now, however, both brothers find themselves wearing the same NHL sweater, which naturally raises some interesting questions.
Could Brady eventually make the jump to Sherwood and join his brother?
Might Matthew decide to switch over to TRUE?
Or could both players eventually move in an entirely different direction, and begin new equipment partnerships with another manufacturer?
At this point, nobody outside of the players, their representatives, and the equipment companies truly knows the details of their endorsement agreements. The length of those contracts, potential renewal options, and any exclusivity clauses remain private. That means any discussion about future changes is purely speculation.
Still, history tells us these types of moves certainly aren't impossible.
Over the years, NHL players have switched equipment brands for a variety of reasons. Sometimes contracts expire naturally. Other times players seek a different stick build, glove fit, skate profile, or simply a new endorsement opportunity. There have even been instances where players have changed partnerships on relatively short notice for various reasons.
Neither Tkachuk brother is unfamiliar with different brands, either.
Before becoming one of Sherwood's biggest ambassadors, Matthew spent part of his Calgary Flames career partnered with Warrior. Earlier in his NHL career, he also had experience using Bauer equipment.
Brady likewise has experience with Bauer dating back to his younger playing days before establishing himself as one of TRUE's marquee representatives.
Because of those previous relationships, there are several realistic possibilities moving forward.
Perhaps nothing changes at all. Matthew could remain with Sherwood while Brady continues representing TRUE for years to come. Both partnerships have been successful, and there may be little reason for either side to make a change.
On the other hand, the opportunity to have both Tkachuk brothers representing the same equipment company could prove to be an attractive marketing opportunity. Whether that's Sherwood, TRUE, or even another manufacturer altogether remains to be seen.
From an equipment perspective, the next few seasons will certainly be worth monitoring.
Will Matthew continue using Sherwood sticks and gloves? Does Brady remain one of TRUE's flagship NHL athletes? Or will we eventually see the brothers with matching equipment setups under the same brand?
For now, those questions remain unanswered. But if there's one thing hockey equipment enthusiasts have learned over the years, it's that endorsement deals and equipment partnerships can evolve just as quickly as NHL rosters themselves.
As the Tkachuk brothers begin this exciting new chapter together with the Panthers, fans will undoubtedly be watching their production on the ice. At the same time, equipment enthusiasts will also be keeping a close eye on the gear they carry onto it.
Needless to say, we wouldn't be surprised if, somewhere within the next handful of years, Matthew and Brady eventually find themselves using equipment from the same manufacturer. Whether that prediction comes true remains to be seen, but it's certainly another intriguing storyline to follow as one of hockey's most talented sibling duos begins its journey together in Florida.
