In what has already been a landmark summer for both player and brand, Matthew Schaefer has officially signed on with Warrior Hockey. This marks a pivotal moment in his young career and an equally significant step forward for Warrior as an equipment company aiming to reassert its presence at the top of the hockey world.
Schaefer, selected first overall by the New York Islanders, had long been touted as a high-end prospect for the 2025 draft. A dynamic, two-way defenseman capable of quarterbacking the power play and defending top competition, Schaefer offers a complete toolkit that NHL scouts dream about. His 2024–25 season with the Erie Otters served as a confirmation of his elite potential, despite it being cut short. In just 17 games, he notched 22 points, an exceptional scoring rate for a 17-year-old defenseman in the Ontario Hockey League.
Unfortunately, an injury at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship ended his season much earlier than everyone anticipated, but it did nothing to diminish his draft stock. The Islanders, trusting their scouting assessments, made the bold move to invest in Schaefer as a potential franchise cornerstone moving forward.

Just one day after hearing his name called at the top of the draft, another major announcement followed. Warrior Hockey officially welcomed Schaefer to their team. While the move may have surprised some given Schaefer’s prior use of Bauer sticks during his time with Erie and Team Canada, the signs were beginning to show. Mere hours before the draft, Schaefer was spotted at a pre-draft youth clinic in Los Angeles hosted at the Kings’ practice facility.
Skating with young players and other NHL draft prospects, Schaefer appeared in new Warrior gloves and was using the brand’s new Alpha LX3 Pro stick. For many in the equipment community, that was the unofficial confirmation.

The very next day, Warrior removed all doubt, posting a welcome message across their social platforms that confirmed Schaefer had joined their growing roster of elite young talent. It’s a significant move, not just for the player, but for Warrior as a brand navigating a competitive space.
In recent years, Warrior has made a strong push in securing long-term relationships with the next generation of NHL stars. Earlier in 2025, they announced Ivan Demidov would be joining the fold. Demidov is a top Montreal Canadiens prospect with expectations to be a star in one of the league’s largest markets. That move, followed closely by the Schaefer announcement, signals a serious intent to rebuild their brand identity around elite young talent.
Of course, not every signing guarantees stardom. Back in 2022, Warrior inked Shane Wright, who at the time was projected to go first overall but fell to fourth and has yet to fully realize his high-end potential. While the Wright situation didn’t unfold as many predicted, it laid the groundwork for Warrior to learn, recalibrate, and approach future signings with even more precision.
With Schaefer, Warrior seems to have found its stride. This isn’t just about getting a player in Warrior gear, it’s about aligning with someone who could truly define a franchise. Schaefer’s playstyle is poised with maturity, and upside to match perfectly with Warrior’s current product evolution. More specifically with their Alpha LX3 Pro line, which emphasizes power, precision, and elite-level control.
As Schaefer begins his NHL journey in New York eventually, Warrior will be right there with him, both literally and symbolically. In a sport where gear choice often reflects personal identity and performance needs, Schaefer choosing Warrior at such a pivotal moment is more than a marketing win, it’s a statement.
With momentum building and a future superstar on board, Warrior Hockey has positioned itself as a serious contender in the equipment space once again. For fans, gearheads, and the brand itself, the partnership with Matthew Schaefer represents more than just a fresh face. This could very well be the beginning of a new legacy.
