Rasmus Dahlin and Bauer: Possible Reunion in The Making

Another mysterious and potentially significant equipment shift may be brewing in the NHL, and this time it involves one of the league’s premier defensemen.
Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin, now in the midst of his eighth NHL season, appears to be at a crossroads with his long-standing relationship with Warrior Hockey. While nothing has been officially confirmed, recent on-ice evidence suggests that a return to full Bauer equipment is very much on the table.
When Dahlin entered the league during the 2018–19 season as the first overall pick, he did so completely outfitted in Bauer gear from head to toe. At the time, that pairing made perfect sense.
Bauer has a long history of signing top draft picks and maintaining those relationships for many years, often building marketing campaigns around franchise-level talents. Given Dahlin’s pedigree and immediate impact, many assumed his association with Bauer would be a long-term one.
That assumption, however, did not hold for long.
By the start of the 2019–20 season, Dahlin had moved away from Bauer and into a new partnership with Warrior Hockey. He began wearing Warrior pants, gloves, and transitioned to their sticks, marking a significant shift early in his career.
Over the next several seasons, Warrior became closely tied to Dahlin’s identity as a player. The partnership appeared strong and stable, with Dahlin continuing to represent the brand through multiple iterations of sticks and protective gear.
The relationship deepened even further ahead of the 2022–23 NHL season, when Dahlin finally made the switch to Warrior helmets. At that point, he was effectively a full Warrior skater, with Bauer no longer visibly present in his setup aside from skates, which are often treated separately in endorsement structures.
For several years, Dahlin and Warrior seemed firmly aligned.
That perception began to change in early November of this season. Without much warning, Dahlin was spotted using Bauer sticks during games, a move that immediately caught the attention of equipment watchers.
The switch was surprising not only because of his long-standing Warrior affiliation, but also because it came at somewhat of a random time, when players typically avoid unnecessary changes.
After a brief return to Warrior sticks toward the end of November, the situation became even more intriguing on December 3rd, when Dahlin once again used Bauer sticks in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Since that night, the Bauer sticks have remained in his hands.
This raises the obvious question, could this be the beginning of a full transition back to Bauer? It is worth noting that Dahlin has quietly been wearing Bauer pants for several years now, even while representing Warrior in other categories.
Still, pants alone do not constitute a full equipment switch, nor do they typically factor into major promotional partnerships. For a true return to Bauer to take shape, the gloves would need to follow, and to a lesser degree the helmet would as well. That would signal more of a commitment and opening the door for renewed marketing involvement.
Of course, it is entirely possible that the stick change is the beginning and end of this story. Players often experiment with sticks for reasons ranging from feel and balance to subtle performance preferences, especially over the course of a long season.
That said, with so much of the season still ahead, the possibility of a full-Bauer return cannot be dismissed. Equipment changes of this nature often unfold gradually, and Dahlin’s stature as a franchise cornerstone makes any move he makes especially noteworthy.
Whether this situation results in a complete shift or remains limited to sticks, it is another reminder of how fluid equipment relationships can be, even for the league’s biggest stars.
For now, all eyes remain on Dahlin’s setup as the season continues to unfold.
