CCM's JetSpeed FT8 Pro Gloves Have Scratched The Surface

For years, CCM and Warrior have faced an unusual challenge when introducing new glove models to the National Hockey League.
Despite both brands’ deep roots in professional hockey and their reputation for top-tier craftsmanship, many of their recent releases have struggled to find consistent adoption among NHL players. Equipment enthusiasts have noticed this trend season after season, a fresh model hits the market, but maybe only a handful of pros decide to make the switch.
This season, however, CCM appears to have made a real breakthrough with the JetSpeed FT8 Pro gloves. Released earlier this year, the FT8 Pros have managed to carve out a small but meaningful presence in the NHL.
By our count at GearGeek.com, 2.08% of NHL players, roughly fifteen in total, are currently using this model. On paper, that might seem like a modest number, but given CCM’s recent history with glove adoption, it’s actually a promising and noteworthy step forward.
CCM’s JetSpeed line has long been known for its lightweight, close-to-the-hand fit and premium feel, but the FT8 Pro gloves take that to another level. Early reviews point to improved dexterity, better backhand protection, and enhanced ventilation. These are key details that make a difference for elite players logging heavy minutes every night.
Still, the real story isn’t just the specs; it’s that players are finally trusting a new CCM glove enough to wear it on game day.
For comparison, many recent CCM releases, despite their new design and innovation, struggled to gain widespread traction. Whether due to player preference, comfort quirks, or simply timing, it seemed as though CCM gloves couldn’t find a foothold in the NHL beyond a handful of loyalists.
Warrior faced a similar problem, though the Covert QR6 Pro has recently shown progress in changing that narrative.
The FT8 Pro appears to be CCM’s answer to this same challenge, signaling a shift in perception among players and fans alike.
Among the fifteen NHL players wearing the FT8 Pros, several big names stand out. Charlie McAvoy, Sean Couturier, Michael Misa, and Jimmy Snuggerud have all embraced this new model, providing CCM with valuable on-ice exposure and credibility. These players are well-known amongst fans, so their decision to wear the FT8 Pros carries significant weight.
In the world of hockey gear, the saying “I’ll have what he’s having” often proves true. When respected veterans and emerging stars adopt new equipment, others tend to follow. McAvoy’s status as a cornerstone defenseman for Boston, Couturier’s reputation for two-way excellence, and the buzz surrounding young talents like Misa and Snuggerud all contribute to the FT8 Pro’s growing visibility.
The adoption rate might be small today, but its trajectory could be telling. Much like Warrior’s gradual success with the Covert QR6 Pro, CCM may be witnessing the start of a larger shift.
With each game, each highlight, and each slow-motion replay featuring a recognizable player wearing the FT8 Pros, the potential for wider adoption grows. As more players experiment with the gloves and discover their comfort and performance benefits firsthand, it’s reasonable to expect that 2.08% figure to climb. In an era where even minor changes to equipment can ripple across the league, CCM may have finally cracked the code on modern glove appeal.
While it’s too early to declare total victory, the CCM JetSpeed FT8 Pro gloves represent a meaningful leap forward for the brand. The combination of improved design, positive player feedback, and high-profile endorsements has put CCM back in the glove conversation in a way we haven’t seen for years.
If this early traction continues, the FT8 Pro could go down as the model that broke the dry spell, a turning point that reminded players and fans that CCM is still a driving force in hockey innovation. Time will tell, but for now, the FT8 Pro gloves have already scored an important win for CCM.
